Why Insurance Doesn't Typically Cover Life Coaching
Life coaching is a valuable service that focuses on helping individuals achieve their personal and professional goals, enhance their quality of life, and navigate through various transitions. However, it is important to understand that life coaching is distinct from therapy and counseling, and as such, it is generally not covered by insurance.
Key Points:
1. Non-Medical Nature: Life coaching does not diagnose or treat mental health conditions. Insurance companies typically cover services that are medically necessary, which includes therapy and counseling for mental health diagnoses. Life coaching, on the other hand, is a non-medical service aimed at personal development and goal achievement.
2. Out-of-Pocket Expense: Since life coaching is not recognized as a medical necessity, clients are usually required to pay out-of-pocket for these services. While this might seem like a drawback, investing in life coaching can lead to significant personal and professional growth, making it a worthwhile expenditure.
3. Health Savings Accounts (HSAs): Some clients may be able to use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) to pay for life coaching services, but this depends on the specific guidelines of their HSA or FSA provider. It is advisable to check with your provider to see if life coaching expenses are eligible.
4. Private Payment Options: Many life coaches offer flexible payment plans or package deals to make their services more accessible. Clients should inquire about these options to find a plan that fits their budget.
Life coaching is an investment in your future, providing you with the tools, strategies, and support needed to reach your full potential. While insurance may not cover these services, the benefits of life coaching can far outweigh the costs.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
What is EAP?: EAP is a confidential health benefit usually provided by employers, available to you and members of your household. It typically covers a limited number of short-term, solution-focused counseling sessions.
Continuing Beyond EAP: If you wish to continue counseling with Amy Cole beyond the EAP-covered sessions, you can do so by using your regular insurance coverage or by paying the standard fee of $150 per session.
